With a career spanning over 40 years, Declan has played alongside and produced music for iconic artists such as Christy Moore, Mary Black, Sinead Lohan, and John Spillane. As a founding member of Horslips and Moving Hearts, and spending 13 transformative years with Mary Black and 30 with iconic singer songwriter Christy Moore, Declan’s influence on Irish music is profound.
Declan was born in Wexford town, where his father ran an optician and jewellery shop on Main Street, he moved to Dublin in the late 1960s. Around 1970, he co-founded the poetry and music ensemble Tara Telephone, showcasing his skills in composition, vocals, and guitar. He later teamed up with poet and percussionist Eamon Carr to establish the Celtic Rock band Horslips. However, he departed from the group in 1972, before their debut album in 1973.
In the 1980s, he joined Moving Hearts and later focused on production work with Mary Black and her sister Frances Black. During their 13-year collaboration spanning six albums, he toured globally with Mary Black.
For over 30 years, he has been an integral part of Christy Moore’s ensemble, featuring prominently on Moore’s 1984 album “Ride On.” His live performances often include classics like “Corrina, Corrina,” “St. Louis Blues,” and “Lord Franklin.” In July 2012, Sinnott played to a packed audience at Wexford’s Arts Centre, following a sold-out show with Christy Moore in Galway. This marked his final performance before launching his debut solo album, “I Love The Noise It Makes,” in September 2012. His subsequent album, “Window On The World,” was released in 2015.
In recent times, Evelyn Kallansee and Declan Sinnott joined forces, releasing their collaborative album ‘Make for Joy’ in February 2020. This album was celebrated as RTE 1’s ‘Album of the Week.’ Declan’s illustrious career includes collaborations with iconic artists such as Christy Moore, Mary Black, Horslips, and Moving Hearts. His multifaceted talents in production, songwriting, vocals, and guitar enrich the duo’s partnership with Evelyn. Hailing from the tropical island of Curaçao, Evelyn has carved out a diverse musical path in the Netherlands before settling in Co. Kerry. Together, they offer a refreshing blend of original compositions, covers, and Declan’s signature tunes.
